How to make an app QR code
SmartQRCode editorial · Updated October 2026
How to make an app QR code that opens a hosted download page, not two store URLs baked into the modules. appName required field, then at least one store link. Edit the listings after print. If one App Store URL is immortal and uncounted, encode it in Canva and skip the landing page.
How to make an app QR code
The App type is a landing page: Appearance, App Info (App Name required, optional developer name line, description, square App Icon), then Store Links. At least one of App Store URL, Google Play URL, Amazon Appstore slot, or Website URL is required. The modules encode a SmartQRCode URL. You can change a bundle listing later without reprinting the crate. Encoding is landing-page, not a redirect to apps.apple.com on the first hop.
Skip this type when you only have one immortal store URL and no need to count scans. A static file is then the right one-off. Skip it when the job is a trailer. That is Video. Skip Huawei-as-a-first-class-store. It is not a listed field. Use Website URL. Paid options are $1.99, $29, $97, or $197. There is no unpaid tier. The App Store-specific sibling is app store QR code how to.
Name the app, then add one store link
- Pick App in create. Website URL pasted with an App Store link is a redirect, no download card.
- Enter App Name. This is the appName required field. My App is a placeholder.
- Add Developer Name if the card should show a company. Optional.
- Write App Description as two rows, not a store review.
- Upload App Icon as a square. Keep a separate logo on the modules small, with higher error correction, or skip a module logo.
- Paste at least one store URL: https://apps.apple.com/..., https://play.google.com/..., https://amazon.com/..., or a homepage. Help text on App Store URL says to add at least one link so there is something to tap.
- Pay, then scan the live code. The unpaid pattern is /qr-preview.
- Export SVG or 300 dpi PNG or PDF. Print at least 2 cm across at about 30 cm. On a launch roll-up, enlarge for aisle distance and place at chest height.
Use the app generator. A video generator is the trailer, not the listing.
How many store links does the page need
how many store links does the page need is one minimum, four maximum in the form. One iOS listing is valid. iOS plus Play is the usual pair. Amazon is the third storefront. Website is the escape hatch for a sideload page or a waitlist. Empty Amazon is fine. Empty everything is not.
The landing does not hide Play on iPhone. It shows what you pasted. If you want two counts, print two codes. If you want one count, use one code and both links.
What happens if every store field is empty
what happens if every store field is empty is a blocked save. A download page with no download used to ship. Scanners reached a named app and had nothing to tap. That is worse than a code that fails. Fill a URL.
A typo in the Play link is the failure that looks like a platform bug. The QR scans. The button 404s. Paste the listing URL from the store, not a search page, not a marketing site that looks like the store.
Icon files that cover more of the printed symbol than error correction can restore leave finders visible and the payload dead. Shrink the module mark. Test at the real distance.
Icon files that crush the finders
A square app icon on the landing is not the same object as a logo in the QR. The landing icon can be large. The module logo cannot. Covering a finder is the most common reason a crate code that looked fine on a laptop fails in a warehouse.
Gloss carton plus overhead warehouse lights is a glare problem. Matte on the symbol helps. Do not invert dark-on-dark.
Crates, roll-ups, and a quiet zone on film
A crate in the hand can sit near 2 cm. A roll-up in an aisle cannot. Viewing distance scales roughly with size. Put the symbol at chest height, not in a footer under legal lines. Packaging flexo, shrink, and curves distort modules. Test-scan the formed pack.
Download SVG for a cutter, PDF plus 300 dpi PNG for carton. Do not send a screenshot of the unpaid preview. That pattern is /qr-preview. Quiet zone: four modules on every side. A logo in the modules is not the App Icon on the landing. Two different files, two different size rules.
Scan counts are scans of the code, not App Store downloads. Device and country come from headers. Pause if the listing must stop. Archive if the crate should keep working. A hosted page lasts as long as we resolve it. That is the trade for a bundle ID change without a reprint.
Amazon Appstore is a field. Huawei is not. Website URL is the escape hatch. Empty Amazon is fine. Empty every store field is not.
Name collisions matter more than people expect. If the landing title is the internal SKU and the store listing is the consumer name, the guest thinks they scanned the wrong product. Align those two strings before the carton art locks. A scan count will not tell you they bounced because the names disagreed.
When a single listing in Canva is enough
when a single listing in Canva is enough is an iOS-only app whose apps.apple.com URL will not move and will not be counted. Encode it in Canva or the phone. You will not edit the destination. You will not see scans. You will not pay $29 for a card you never open.
Use the App type when listings may move, when you need Play beside App Store, when you want a scan total, or when the crate will outlive a bundle ID change. Export a printer file. Keep /qr-preview off the plate.
Questions this raises
At least one of App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, or Website. All four empty is refused.
The form will not finish. A download page with nothing to tap used to be saveable. It is not now.
When one store URL will never move and you do not need scan counts. Encode that URL as a static file.
The landing shows the links you pasted. It is not a silent OS sniff that hides the other store.
No. Use Website URL if you must send scanners to another storefront.
