How to make a whatsapp QR code that opens a chat
This type is a redirect, same class as website, Google review, and location. The modules store a SmartQRCode URL. The scan hands off to WhatsApp with your number and, if you set one, a pre-filled send line. WhatsApp Business number and personal WhatsApp numbers both work if they are registered.

Does the WhatsApp number need a country code?
Yes. WhatsApp accepts full international numbers. A staff mobile saved as 07... in one country is unroutable for a tourist who scans the door. Put the country code in the field even if every current customer is local.

Chats that open empty, or to the wrong account
Wrong number is first. Transposed digits pass as a valid QR. Confirm the E.164 string before a 2,000-sticker run.
A pre-filled send line that looks right on desktop can wrap oddly; keep it short. If WhatsApp is missing, the OS offers install. Do not promise a lock-screen UI.
Print failures: quiet zone cropped, logo past error correction H, dark vinyl on dark film with no invert, a screenshot of /qr-preview, or a 2 cm code asked to work from across the street.

What a missing plus-sign does to an otherwise valid chat
E.164 without the country digits is the failure that still "looks like a QR." The camera locks, WhatsApp opens, and the account does not exist. Add the plus and the country code in the field, then test from a foreign SIM or from a second phone that is not in your contacts.
Pre-filled send line copy should not include another QR or a second phone number. The guest is already in the thread. Extra digits look like a scam script.
Outdoor A-boards: several times 2 cm, H correction, matte if the board is gloss. Rain on uncoated ink spreads modules. Reprint the board when it scuffs; the hosted number can stay.

Encode wa.me in Canva for a weekend stall
A Canva one-off or other free static generator is the right tool when the number and message are frozen and you will not count scans. The system camera still reads that file. ISO/IEC 18004 does not care who drew it.
Do not host a redirect on $1.99 for a number you will bin with the bunting. Do not static-encode a support line you will migrate next quarter. Pick hosted when the account or the pitch will move. A second proof on the live vinyl, scanned after dark, catches glare the office lights hid. If the A-board sits on the pavement, export a street-size SVG rather than scaling the counter sticker.
