How to make a business QR code
SmartQRCode editorial · Updated October 2026
How to make a business QR code that opens a hosted profile: name, phone email website, address as one line, and an openHours text field. The window vinyl stays when hours change. If nothing on that card will ever move and you will not count scans, a Canva file or a painted hours sign is the smaller tool.
How to make a business QR code
Business is a landing-page type. Fields: Appearance, Business Info (Business Name required, optional Company Tagline, Description, business logo square), Contact (Phone, Email, Website), Address (Address, Open Hours with placeholder Mon-Fri 9am-5pm). The scan shows that page. The modules encode a SmartQRCode URL. You can change a lunch close without a new print. It is not a vCard save-to-contacts, not a Menu of dishes, and not a Location redirect into a maps app.
Skip this type when the job is dishes. Use Menu. Skip it when the job is one Facebook Page. Use Facebook. Skip it when name, hours, and phone are immortal. Encode a static graphic in Canva or skip the QR. Paid options are $1.99, $29, $97, or $197. There is no unpaid tier. Hours as a craft are business profile QR code hours.
Name, phone, address, and openHours
- Pick Business in create. Contact Card is vCard. Location is a pin. Menu is dishes.
- Enter Business Name. Acme Inc is a placeholder.
- Add Company Tagline and Description only if they earn space on a phone.
- Upload Business Logo as a square for the page. That is not the module logo. If you also mark the symbol, keep it small and raise error correction.
- Fill Phone, Email, and Website as guests should dial and tap. Include a country code on the phone if scanners are not local.
- Enter Address as one line. Enter Open Hours as the openHours text field, readable as Mon-Fri 9am-5pm or whatever you actually run. This is not a maps pin.
- Scan the paid code. The unpaid preview is /qr-preview. Tap the phone number on a real device.
- Export SVG or 300 dpi PNG or PDF. At a retail counter, 2 cm across at about 30 cm is the floor. A shop window read from the pavement needs several times that.
The business generator is the tool. A Website URL is a hop to a site you already run.
What belongs in openHours versus a maps type
what belongs in openHours versus a maps type is a sentence humans read. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Closed Sundays. Bank holiday exceptions belong here when they matter. A Location type opens whatever maps app the phone has. There is no guarantee of Google Maps on iOS. Do not use Business to force a pin. Do not use Location to publish hours. If you need both jobs, print two codes or put the address on Business and accept that it is not a geo: launch.
The hours sibling is the place to argue seasonal edits. This page is the whole profile.
Should the logo sit in the modules or on the page
should the logo sit in the modules or on the page is two objects. business logo square is the landing. A logo in the QR is recovered by error correction. If it covers more than the level can restore, finders can still show and the code still fails. Prefer the landing logo. If you brand the modules, test at the real distance.
Gloss window vinyl under street lighting flares. Matte on the symbol, or a less glossy varnish on that patch, scans more often than a dark invert on brick.
A profile that dials the wrong number
A missing + country code is a room full of failed calls, not a failed scan. The QR worked. The tel link did not. Fix Phone. Same for a moved shop: edit Address and Open Hours. The vinyl can stay. A static hours graphic in the modules cannot.
Two codes in the window (menu and business) in one camera frame typically return one reading. Separate them.
Counter cards versus shop-window vinyl
A counter card is arm's length. Size can sit near 2 cm. A window read from the pavement is not. Viewing distance scales roughly with size. Transparent stickers on glass need a white back. The street is not a quiet zone. Metallic and foil grounds scatter. Print the symbol on a solid white patch.
Business cards compete with type and round corners. Keep the quiet zone inside the edge. Gloss under a downlighter fails a desk-tested code. Matte the symbol patch.
Export SVG, PDF, PNG, or JPG. Vinyl cutters want vector. Toner wants 300 dpi at the millimetre size. Scan totals are scans, not footfall. Country is a header. Pause stops the page. Archive keeps the vinyl working. A hosted profile lasts as long as we resolve it. That is the trade for editing a lunch close without a new window print. A painted hours sign has no such dependency and no such edit.
Put the finished SVG on a counter card at 2 cm and on a window vinyl sized for the pavement. Scan both. The counter job fails on wipe-down and condiments; the window job fails on street clutter behind clear vinyl. Those are two prints of one profile, not two types.
When a static hours graphic is enough
when a static hours graphic is enough is a shop whose name, hours, and phone will not change and will not be counted. Paint the hours. Or encode a static URL in Canva. You will not get a dashboard. You will not edit the line.
Use Business when hours move, when the phone number might, or when the window needs a scan total. Export a printer file. Keep /qr-preview off the plate. Keep the quiet zone off the round corner of a card. Phone, email, website, and address are the contact block. Open Hours is the line guests read. Neither field opens a maps app. Include a country code on the phone if scanners are visiting from abroad.
Questions this raises
openHours is a text line on the business landing, such as Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. A Location type opens a maps app. They are different types.
Business Logo is a square on the landing. A mark in the modules is a separate design step and needs higher error correction.
When name, hours, and phone will never change and you do not need scan counts. Print a vinyl sign or encode a static file in Canva.
Yes. The modules encode a SmartQRCode URL. Change phone, address, or hours without reprinting.
No. vCard saves a contact. Business is a profile page with hours, phone, address, and website.
