How to make an event QR code
SmartQRCode editorial · Updated October 2026
How to make an event QR code that opens a hosted page and downloads an ICS file. Event Name required, a datetime-local start, optional end with the end after start rule. ICS not a redirect. If the gig cannot slip and you will not count scans, a Canva one-off is enough.
How to make an event QR code
Event is a landing-page type because a calendar entry is added by downloading a text/calendar file. There is no destination URL to 302 to. The page shows what and when, then the guest saves the file. Fields: Event Name, Starts as datetime-local, optional Ends (must be after start), optional Where, Details, Tickets or info link, plus Appearance. The modules encode a SmartQRCode URL, so a slipped door time is a dashboard edit, not a new flyer. That is F41. It is not F10. It is not F13.
Do not use Event as access control. It is not a ticket. Use a Website URL to a ticketing page if you need that. Do not use Event to open Maps. Where is a string in the ICS. A Location type is the maps job. Do not use Event when the date cannot move and you do not want counts. Encode a static ICS or a static URL in Canva. Paid options are $1.99, $29, $97, or $197. There is no unpaid tier. ICS mechanics are event calendar QR code ICS.
Event Name, startDate, and an end after start
- Pick Event in create. Website URL to an Eventbrite link is a redirect, no ICS from us.
- Enter Event Name. Summer Rooftop Session is a placeholder. This field is Event Name required.
- Set Starts with the datetime-local control. That is the datetime-local start. Use the wall-clock time of the venue, not a timezone you are guessing.
- Set Ends only if you know it. The end after start rule blocks an end at or before start. Leave it blank and the file still builds with a default range.
- Fill Where as a postal line guests can recognise. It is not a geo: URL.
- Add Details and Tickets or info link if they help. The link is optional. It does not turn this type into a redirect.
- Scan the paid code, open the landing, download the ICS, confirm the times on a second phone. The unpaid preview is /qr-preview.
- Export SVG or 300 dpi PDF. Print at least 2 cm across at about 30 cm. Lanyards flex. Prefer a posted A4 at the door or a chest-height board on a stand.
The event generator is the tool. A business profile is hours of a shop, not a gig.
Is an event code a ticket scan
is an event code a ticket scan is no. Door staff who scan this will get a calendar file, not an admit/deny. If you need tickets, the Tickets or info link can point at the shop, or you print a second Website URL code. Two codes in one frame typically return one reading. Separate them on the flyer.
A video landing is a film page. Do not use Event to host a trailer.
What if the end is before the start
what if the end is before the start is a blocked save. Some calendar apps reorder a backwards range. Others reject it. The form catches it. A missing end is allowed. The ICS writer then applies a default so the entry is not a zero-length blip.
An empty title cannot ship. A title with no start cannot ship. A partial file is worse than no download. We do not serve a malformed ICS.
Ends before start and empty calendar files
The unique failure is a flyer that scans, a page that opens, and a download that puts the wrong night on a phone. Fix startDate. Re-scan. Calendars treat UID as identity, so a later download should update, not duplicate, when the seed is the code. The ICS sibling explains floating times and all-day DTEND.
Badge and wristband prints flex and wash. H correction and a posted sheet beat a wrinkled lanyard. Hall lighting on gloss boards flares. Matte the symbol.
Flyers, screens, and a posted sheet at the door
Trade-stand roll-ups are two to four metres. Two centimetres is a table size. Enlarge and place at chest-to-head height. Screens can show the symbol larger than any flyer. Still export a real file, not a webcam photo of the laptop.
PNG, JPG, SVG, and PDF are the downloads. Vector for vinyl. 300 dpi for toner. Quiet zone of four modules. A logo in the modules needs H correction and a test at the real distance.
Scan totals, device, and country apply. They are not ticket scans. Pause if the gig is cancelled. Archive if the flyer should keep working while you hide the row. The next ICS download after an edit should update the same UID. The file sibling covers floating times and exclusive all-day DTEND.
Door staff should test-scan the posted A4, not the PDF on a laptop. Lanyard prints flex and fail first; a sheet on the door at chest height is the durable copy. If the ICS opens and the times are a day off, you have a floating-time vs local-clock problem, not a broken QR.
When a static ICS file is enough
when a static ICS file is enough is a date that cannot slip and a print you will not count. Host an ICS yourself or encode a static URL in Canva. You will not edit the start. You will not see scans. You will not depend on us after the file is in the modules.
Use the Event type when the door might move, when you want the landing plus download, or when the flyer must report scans. Export a printer file. Keep /qr-preview off the plate. Do not call this a maps QR. Do not call it a ticket. The ICS download is the product. The flyer is only the pointer. Do not print a claim that the scan admits anyone at the door.
Questions this raises
No. It is a calendar ICS download from a landing page. Tickets belong on a Website URL type.
The form blocks it. The end must be after the start. Calendars would reorder or reject a backwards range.
When the gig cannot slip and you do not need scan counts. Encode a static file in Canva or attach a hand-made ICS URL.
No. Location on the event is a text field in the ICS. A Location type is the maps redirect. D67 does not apply here.
Yes. Edit startDate. The flyer still points at the hosted page. The next ICS download carries the new time.
