How to make a social media QR code

How to make a social media QR code that opens a hosted link tree, not six URLs baked into the modules. Fill a name, optional bio and photo, then at least one network URL. Edit the list after print. A Canva file is enough if those URLs never move and you will not count scans.
How to make a social media QR code
You are building the Social Media type: a social media QR code that serves a link tree landing on scan. The printed pattern stores a SmartQRCode URL, not the Instagram handle itself, which is why the list can change after ink. That is a landing-page encoding, not a redirect through the tracker, and not the static Wi-Fi type.
This is the wrong job when you only have a Facebook page and will never add another channel. Use the Facebook type for that single profile card. It is also the wrong job when the tree is immortal and you do not care how many people scanned the flyer. A free static generator that encodes one Linktree or profile URL is the honest tool then. SmartQRCode has no unpaid tier; paid options are $1.99, $29, $97, or $197. A hosted tree lasts as long as the account keeps resolving it.
There are 17 types. Do not invent an eighteenth that is Instagram-only. Put the profile URL in the Instagram slot.
Fill the six network URL slots
- Open create and pick Social Media, not Website URL and not Facebook.
- Enter Your Name. The form will not finish without it.
- Add Short Bio if you want a line under the name. Skip it if the name is enough.
- Upload Profile Photo as a profile photo square crop if you have a headshot. Leave it blank rather than stretching a banner.
- Paste at least one network into the six social URL fields: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok. One live URL satisfies every slot. Empty slots stay off the page.
- Set Theme Color, Button Color, and Font Style under Appearance. These dress the landing page, not the modules.
- Pay, then scan the live code. The unpaid preview encodes /qr-preview, so a screenshot of that screen is not the product.
- Download SVG for vinyl, or a 300 dpi PNG or PDF for toner. Print the symbol at least 2 cm across, quiet zone excluded, and test from about 30 cm with iOS Camera or Android Camera / Google Lens.
Keep four empty modules of quiet zone on every side. A logo on the pattern is recovered by error correction, not by a special mode. If you add one, raise correction toward H so the three finder squares still read.
Which networks belong on one tree
Put the public profile URL, not a login page, not a share sheet, and not a search result. https://instagram.com/yourhandle belongs. A Facebook event that expires next week does not. YouTube should be the channel or a playlist you will keep, not last Tuesday's premiere that you will unlist.
which networks belong on one tree is a content decision, not a type decision. The six slots are the whole list. There is no seventh for Threads or a shop. If a channel is not in that set, either skip it or put a homepage in a Website URL code beside this one. Two codes in one camera frame usually return one reading, so do not stack them on the same card corner.
Retail packaging and till cards are a natural fit. See QR codes for retail if the tree sits on a shelf edge at arm's length. Size can sit near the 2 cm floor there. Stage slides need a larger symbol because the scanner is in a seat, not at a counter.
The Facebook type is a different landing page: one facebookUrl, a name, optional profession and photo. If you are really making a six-network tree, stay on Social Media. The sibling write-up is social profile QR code how to. For a page-only job, use how to make a Facebook QR code.
What a social scan actually counts
what a social scan actually counts is the scan of the code, not the tap on Instagram versus TikTok. Totals over time, device type, and country come through. Country is a request-header guess, not a GPS trace. The dashboard cannot see the scanner's name, email, or handle.
That is enough to know whether the table card was used. It is not enough to rank networks. If you need per-channel counts, print two codes or send each network from a Website URL type with its own destination. Do not expect the tree to split the number for you.
Paused codes stop serving. Archived codes keep scanning. Do not confuse the two when a campaign ends.
Download formats are PNG, JPG, SVG, and PDF. Vinyl cutters want vector paths. A PNG sent to a cutter is traced, and tracing QR modules produces broken corners. Toner jobs want 300 dpi at the millimetre size you will print, not a 400 px editor grab scaled up on the plate.
Blank trees and login-walled links
The form used to require only a name. That shipped codes whose page had nothing to tap. At least one of the six URLs is now required. If you clear every link after print, scanners still reach a page with your name and an empty list. That is a content failure, not a scan failure. Put a URL back or pause the code.
A private Instagram, a Facebook profile that only friends can see, or a LinkedIn page that demands login will scan cleanly and then stall. Test with a phone that is logged out of those apps. A handle typed without https often fails URL validation; paste the full profile URL.
Dark modules on a dark card with no invert will not read. Covering a finder with a sticker is the usual reason a tree that looked fine on screen dies in the room. Do not send a screenshot of the editor to the printer. Vector SVG or a 300 dpi file at the final millimetre size is the brief.
When a Linktree URL in Canva is enough
when a Linktree URL in Canva is enough is the case where that URL is permanent and you will never ask how the flyer performed. Encode it in Canva, Google's demo tools, or the phone's own generator. The modules hold the URL. Changing the tree later means a new print. That is the right trade for a one-off zine, a wedding program that dies on Monday, or a poster you will bin.
Use the hosted type when a channel will die, a handle will change, or you want a scan count. The block-based custom type is a different job: a beta landing page of blocks, not a six-slot tree. Do not pick it to get Instagram. Pick Social Media, fill the slots, export a printer file, and keep the unpaid preview off the plate.
Questions this raises
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok. At least one URL is required or the tree is empty.
Scans of the printed code: totals over time, device type, and country. Taps on each icon are not counted separately.
When that one URL will never move and you do not need a scan count. Encode it as a static file.
Yes. The modules encode a SmartQRCode URL, so you can paste a new profile later without reprinting.
No. One live URL satisfies the rule. Empty slots stay hidden on the page.
